Aluminium 6061 is a precipitation-hardenable Al–Mg–Si alloy containing magnesium and silicon as primary alloying elements, often with small additions of copper and chromium to refine grain structure and enhance strength. In the popular T6/T651 temper, typical mechanical properties include tensile strength around 290 MPa and yield strength about 240 MPa, with elongation roughly 8–12% depending on thickness, alongside a modulus of elasticity near 69–70 GPa. The alloy offers medium fatigue strength, very good corrosion resistance, and excellent weldability, although strength in the heat-affected zone is reduced after welding.
